THE MOTHER ROSARIO BULLETIN 16

EDITORIAL

Only four religious orders have been recognized and allowed by the church to function and one of them is the Dominican order.

St. Dominic founded the order and was approved by the church because it had made a unique contribution to the spiritual upliftment of mankind. Before the foundation of the order only bishops were allowed to preach. St. Dominic introduced an order which would allow the priests to preach. After having made representation at the Vatican , the Pope recognized the need and value of the order of preachers and therefore gave a go signal for its existence.

The church set the feast of St. Dominic on August 8. On this day, thousands of Dominican priests, nuns, sisters and lay members throughout the world celebrate. This includes the congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Molo because it also belongs to the order of St. Dominic.

The motto of St. Dominic is "Contemplation and Act ion". That's why prayer is very important to, the Dominicans. After a deep contemplation a Dominican effectively preaches and translates his contemplation to action.

Mother Rosario's Response To The Gospel Challenge
(by: Sr. Eleanor Garlito)

The gospel challenged during this month of August is twofold: Faithful Discipleship and Communion with Jesus, the Bread of Life.

Mother Rosario responded to the call of discipleship with love, generosity and faithfulness as attested by eye witnesses.

As we reflect on the gospel according to Matthew 14:13-21 about the feeding of the five thousand, it comes to mind what we hear from the testimonies of the witnesses who were privilege to have known and lived with Mother Rosario. And to mention a few, we have our own Sisters still living ( Sr. Ma. Vicenta Bretania and Sr. Ma. Bernardita Potato who helped her in the distribution of rice to many hungry poor who used to come in groups to the Beaterio regularly every Friday to receive their portion. She fed the terror's stricken people about a thousand of them who took refuge in Sta. Ana church, Molo, Iloilo City during World War II as narrated by Carlos Mana-ay, the son of the former worker of Mother Rosario's parents. She also used to provide food to the whole family whose father was jobless until he found work to support his family. She offered breakfast to the guest of the newly wed couple. The bride was a convert from a non-catholic sect, and there were many others that she fed. According to Sr. Josefina Gatilogo and Sr. Frances Cardora (both are deceased) "there was no one who came to Mother Rosario for assistance and left empty handed."

We believe that Mother Rosario's charity and generosity, love and compassion for the poor, the sick and the needy were fruits of her great love for Jesus in his people and deep communion with Him in the Holy Eucharist.

Life And Virtues of Mother Rosario

Many miracles have been received through the holy rosary devotion. Worthy of note are the La Naval de Manila, the miracles of Fatima and Lourdes . Personally, we have many stories to tell about the miracles performed by praying the rosary.

The most important contribution of St. Dominic was spreading the Rosary. He had saved souls and performed miracles through praying the rosary.

Next to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, Mother Rosario had intense devotion to the Holy Rosary. In a day she had spent long hours praying the rosary. Could you just imagine the untold miracles that the Holy rosary devotions had granted her!

Long hours doing a thing over and over again, day after day, year after year will create a lasting impressions which I am sure had made her the replica of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The rosary was the instrument she used to save souls and to enable the unlearned to be converted to Christ. Even the ignorant and the most simple people can reach God through the rosary.

The holy rosary is the legacy of St. Dominic to the order; just as the holy rosary became the legacy of Mother Rosario to the Congregation.

St. Dominic and Mother Rosario believed in the efficacy of the Rosary in transforming the world.

Testimony

By: Margarita Diaz
Address: Avanceña Street
Molo, Iloilo City
Date of Birth: September 26, 1926
Affiliation: Neighbor and pupil of Mother Rosario

I know Mother Rosario as a nun of outstanding virtues because we were neighbors. She followed the footsteps of her generous parents.

Mother Rosario was a strict teacher when it comes to prayers. Every morning she gathered the pupils to pray the rosary. She also started the rosary devotion from house to house which we are doing up to the present. She was teaching catechism to the children and adults of the neighborhood every Sunday afternoon. She was also very strict in the modesty of dress. We could not wear sleeveless and above the knee clothes.

Her charity excelled in all her virtues. Her employees and neighbors were very much indebted to her. They were taken care of especially when they were sick. She was providing coffins for those who could not afford to give modest burial to their loved ones.

All of us people of Molo are very excited for the coming opening of the process of the cause of beatification of Mother Rosario. We believe that she is in heaven.

We hope she will be canonized soon.
